Johannesdal

Built-in window seating nook at Johannesdal House with minimalist cabinetry and natural light

Summary

This new-build residence in Johannesdal was designed as a contemporary timber frame home that prioritizes sustainability, natural aesthetics, and a strong relationship to its environment. The use of timber cladding externally not only enhances the building’s integration into its setting but also establishes a warm and tactile architectural language.

The interiors take inspiration from Japandi design, with a focus on clean geometry, efficient layouts, and a carefully curated material palette. Light timbers, soft neutral tones, and minimalist detailing create a serene backdrop for modern living. Every element was considered to achieve balance: functionality paired with elegance, simplicity enriched by texture, and openness complemented by privacy. This home is an example of how architecture and interiors can work together to create spaces that are both contemporary and deeply connected to nature.
